Meet Our Team

  • Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to help balance the flow of energy, or qi, and promote healing. When the flow of vital energy is blocked, it can lead to imbalances that manifest as physical symptoms, mental health problems, or emotional distress.

Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment option for a wide range of conditions. It can be used to address chronic pain, stress/anxiety, insomnia, seasonal allergies, and digestive problems. It is also a popular treatment for hormonal imbalances that can cause problems with fertility and menopause.

The popularity of acupuncture continues to grow as it becomes more accepted into the mainstream, clinical studies regularly prove its efficacy, and people are experiencing positive results.

  • Acupuncture guides the body towards homeostasis, where healing takes place on a deep level in a natural and organic manner. Very fine needles are inserted into specific points along meridian pathways that traverse the body and correspond with the proper functioning of the organs, musculoskeletal structure, and internal physiological systems.

Pain and disease are mirrored through the meridians of the body. Acupuncture treatments properly align these meridians and restore them to their original functioning. The result is true balance.

Whole-Body Benefits of Acupuncture

The strategic placement of a few acupuncture needles can elicit a profound response from your body, effectively giving your entire system a rejuvenating "reboot." Your body's natural healing mechanisms kick into high gear, promoting circulation and restoring the flow of energy throughout your entire being.

Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine Therapies

Trigger point acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, auricular acupuncture, and ear seeds are techniques that may also be included in your treatment plan to further eliminate pain, release myofascial tension, and promote the flow of blood, Qi, and lymph.

Our acupuncturist will select the most appropriate therapies based on your health history and goals.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping is a deep-tissue healing modality used in traditional Chinese medicine. Cups are applied to the skin using suction and placed in strategic locations, often on specific acupuncture points, or directly on or around the site of pain.

Cupping not only helps alleviate muscle spasms and tension but also stimulates Qi and blood circulation, facilitating the body's natural healing processes. This powerful treatment has a wide range of applications, such as detoxification, sports injury recovery, headache relief, and more.

Cupping is only available as part of an Acupuncture treatment plan or Cupping & Massage Combo.

E-Stim (ElectroAcupuncture)

E-Stim, or electroacupuncture, enhances traditional acupuncture by gently stimulating acupuncture points with low-level electrical currents. Different frequencies are used to target various conditions, including chronic pain, inflammation, muscle tension, and neuropathy. The added electrical stimulation amplifies the body's natural response to acupuncture needles, often felt by the patient as a gentle tingling, pulsing, or buzzing sensation.

Electroacupuncture seamlessly blends ancient wisdom with modern technology, offering an innovative and effective treatment option.

Chinese Herbal Formulas

Herbal medicine is a fundamental part of our treatment strategy. We specialize in creating custom herbal formulas to support the healing process and enhance the benefits of acupuncture.

We source only the highest quality Chinese herbs and botanicals to ensure their efficacy and potency. Browse our extensive tea collection for readymade teas, including signature healing blends and premium loose herbs.

Please Note: The cost of herbs is not included in the price of an acupuncture session.

Dry Needling (Trigger Point Acupuncture)

Dry needling (trigger point acupuncture) involves direct manipulation of tightly contracted muscles, or knots, to ease tension and reduce pain. Trigger points are highly sensitive, tender areas that develop in your muscles and can also cause referred pain that is felt elsewhere in the body.

During a dry needling session, acupuncture needles are inserted into trigger points to encourage the cramped muscles to release into a relaxed state. This treatment may help facilitate healing and restore normal function to the musculoskeletal system.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a traditional healing technique that involves burning moxa, or mugwort, close to the acupuncture meridians to help move stagnant energy. Moxa, with its ability to increase circulation and lymphatic flow, is a naturally detoxifying and effective treatment for pain relief.

During a healing session with our Licensed Acupuncturist, Gregor Bertram, he may use a technique called “Indirect Moxibustion,” where a cigar-shaped tube of moxa is lit and burned close to the acupuncture meridian.

Learn more about Moxibustion on our blog.

Gua Sha

Depending on your individual needs and treatment plan, gua sha may be included in your therapy session. This traditional technique involves applying gentle, repeated scraping strokes with a smooth tool to the body's surface. The term "gua" means to scrape, while "sha" describes the temporary, therapeutic redness that follows.

By addressing fascial restrictions and muscular tension, gua sha works to break down adhesions, stimulate circulation, and encourage healing—ultimately helping to alleviate discomfort and enhance mobility.

Ear Seeds

Ear seeds are a non-invasive form of auriculotherapy, a branch of Chinese medicine that views the ear as a microsystem or comprehensive map of the entire body. Rather than using needles, this practice involves taping tiny seeds or metal beads on specific acupressure points to provide continuous, subtle stimulation.

This technique is commonly used to reduce anxiety and stress by stimulating the Shen Men point, but its applications extend far wider. From managing chronic pain and migraines to improving sleep quality and supporting digestive health, ear seeds offer a versatile approach to wellness.

Ear seeding is available as an add-on to acupuncture treatments.

Acupuncture for TMJ

Acupuncture offers a holistic approach to jaw tightness and stiffness, addressing both trigger points and the underlying stress-related patterns that contribute to clenching and teeth grinding.

During an acupuncture session, fine needles are placed at specific points on the body to help relax tense muscles, reduce inflammation, calm the nervous system, and relieve pain naturally.

For people living with TMJ discomfort, acupuncture may help break the cycle of pain, limited range of motion, and associated tension headaches.

  • Currently, we are not contracted with any insurance companies but are happy to print out a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

  • Refrain from eating a large meal before or after your visit. Wear clothing that is loose and comfortable. If you are coming from work, please feel welcome to bring a change of clothes and you can change clothing here prior to your visit. Please do not consume alcohol or recreational drugs prior to your visit as they may affect your ability to assess the treatment.

  • For the most part, patients feel calm and sleepy when the needles are in place. Some report feeling either heavier or lighter and many fall asleep during treatment.

  • For acute conditions, patients may experience results within a few sessions. Chronic health issues may require 12 or more treatments for significant changes to settle in. This question is best addressed during your first session.

  • You should expect your acupuncture session to be a very relaxing and pain-free experience. Acupuncture needles are in no way similar to needles from a shot or an injection. Most acupuncture needles are up to 100 times smaller than the typical medical syringe and do not feel painful when they are inserted. It is normal to feel a slight pinch as the needles are tapped in. Acupuncture needles are fine and flexible and no thicker than a strand of hair. A slight ache or heaviness near the needle placement is normal and indicative that the body is engaging productively and that energy in your body is being activated. If you experience any prolonged pinching, burning, or sharpness, please let your practitioner know so that the placement of the needle can be adjusted.

  • Dry Needling, also known as trigger point acupuncture, involves direct manipulation of tightly contracted muscles, or knots, that can cause pain throughout the body. Acupuncture needles are used to ease tension and encourage cramped muscles to release into a relaxed state.

  • Electroacupuncture, also known as E-Stim or Electric Stimulation, is a modern variation of acupuncture where mild electrical currents are applied to the needles.

While traditional acupuncture relies on your practitioner’s manual technique to stimulate acupoints, electroacupuncture provides a continuous and controlled level of stimulation for enhanced therapeutic effect.

  • Yes, electroacupuncture is generally considered safe when performed by a licensed practitioner. However, it is not recommended for individuals with pacemakers or other implanted electronic devices. Patients with severe heart conditions or seizure disorders should consult their physicians before considering this therapy.

  • Yes, you can schedule a massage appointment the same day you get acupuncture.

Acupuncture and massage are complementary therapies that address both the physical and energetic aspects of the body. When received in back-to-back sessions, the individual benefits of each therapy can be amplified.

Acupuncture can be done either before or after a massage. Your therapist will assess your condition to determine which order best suits your needs.
